Sailors who served aboard one of many L.S.T.s: This book is to hopefully help the world know just what these truly brave young men went through serving aboard their ship during World War Two, and how their brave contributions contributed to the Allies’ triumphs over both the Japanese and Germans during the war. Listen to the book to become aware of their exciting and unbelievable story.
The sailors that made up the crew were from all walks of life, from all over the country, but still somehow managed to come together so bravely to do the job that was assigned to them. I’m telling this story to help generations born after the war to understand, and so that these amazing sailors’ stories aren't forgotten to history and eventually erased with the measure of too much time. This is a semi non-fictional chronicle, founded upon actual events; names and some details of events have only been slightly changed, for the entertainment of this story, and for dramatic effect. In addition, I felt that each man serving aboard, officer or not, were equal in stature. This was not done to in any way lesson the importance or the impact of any of the fine sailors who actually served aboard the ship.
As the author, as well as son of one of the sailors, I felt their story was just too interesting, and significant, not to get it out to the rest of the world. After more than 67 years, I have chosen to dedicate this book to my own father, who has since passed on. Over the years, I have learned to look up to, and respect, him, even as time was taking its horrible effects on him, as he grew older. He certainly was a quite gentle man, close to God, who served aboard the L.S.T.
In addition, to all the other men and their families, I am proud of all of you for your generous contributions. I thank you all for coming to America, and the world, in her time of need. I would, at this time, like to acknowledge my step-father and the personal journal of Leo F. Wilson, Lt. Without his epitaph of the L.S.T, and its crew, and its exploits that Leo wrote all those years ago, I could not have brought such an exciting bit a history alive. Thank you, Mr. Wilson. He wrote, “Introspectively, we were truly representative of our type of service. The Amphibious Force, and in a more exact sense the L.S.T (landing ship, tank). The personal vein is stressed, as a ship merely expresses the caliber of the men who served aboard her." It is to the men of the ship that this story is respectfully dedicated to.
