Sobre este áudio
Black Butterfly chronicles the true-life story of one of Savannah, Georgia’s most talented female impersonators of the 1980s and 1990s. Joe Nathan Williams, under the name of Miss Tiffany Ross, performed in front of standing-room-only crowds night after night and was welcome and liked by all. Know one else was on his level, he transcended female impersonator into a whole new level of entertainment. He was the very first recipient of the Ms. Club One Jefferson pageant title.
February 1963, and the place is Savannah, Georgia, a small southern town the people refer to as the “The Garden of Good and Evil”. A place where folklore and voodoo are still very much alive. At 11 p.m. Savannah takes off her mask and her secrets are revealed, in places only a few could attend. During the daylight where being openly gay could cause you major problems, like being stoned to death just because you were different. It was into this world that Joe Nathan is born.
Like most kids in the Savannah ghetto Joe Nathan and his younger sibling, Michael, grew up without a father. Michael longs for Joe Nathan to spend time with him like his friends’ older brothers do. There seems to be no chance of that happening; Joe Nathan’s interests are more along the lines of creating stained glass replica windows and nurturing an ever-growing butterfly collection. Sneaking out at night and wearing his mother’s clothing while trying to start his lip-syncing career.
