Sobre este áudio
My memoir depicts my life living in my home town of Middlesbrough. It then had the highest rates of unemployment in the UK. I witnessed the decline of its Iron and Steel, Chemical and Shipbuilding industries leaving tens of thousands of local people out of work. While living as a long time unemployed, unmarried, single mother with my two beautiful girls, both with different fathers, I found myself at the lowest echelon of society. I endured years of ostracisation, poverty and social exclusion. My narrative revolves around my unwavering Christian faith and while gratefully supported by 'not for profit' community and faith organisations that all worked for truth and justice, I was motivated to challenge the hierarchical economic structures that fail to recognise the worth of every individual, whether in paid work or not. I expose the government's blatant scapegoating of marginalised groups such as single parents, the young unemployed, the homeless, those in debt, people of different faiths, sanctuary seekers, and those navigating LGTBQ issues. The ongoing government scapegoating of many of these people often serves as a smokescreen for their unjust social and economic policies. Moreover I confront all forms of prejudice while offering guidance on fostering unity among diverse individuals. Delving deeper into the lives of people, I discovered the profound beauty that lies within the overlooked and marginalised groups in society. As I immersed myself in their world's, I uncovered stories of resilience, strength and untapped potential that absolutely challenged my preconceptions. It became truly evident to me that by understanding and embracing the experiences of these individuals, this would unlock transformative solutions to complex social and economic injustices that we all face in this chaotic world today. It was a great privilege for me to work with these overlooked and marginalised people, shining brightly, in places that I came to describe as DARK HOLY GROUND.
