Delilah Jane sank into the table and wondered how she had gotten into this mess. She had tried so very hard to walk away from that life, leave it behind and not look back. She never asked to be born into a crime family, or to be trained as a driver for a car theft ring. But when it became too much, when they had started dragging her kid into it, she had had enough. All she had wanted was to stay safe and guarded; and not get close to anyone. She was determined to not make friends and not cause any more problems. But here she was … about to run a few more jobs, making a mess of new friendships, mooching off the charity of others, and worst of all, putting her kid in danger again. She brushed the frustrated tears away, and noticed the tall figure standing across the table watching her. And worst of all, she had fallen in love, and now she was about to destroy that too.
