Sinopse
Meditation is defined as the process through which the person observes and becomes aware of what is happening at every moment in the body and mind, accepting the experiences that are presented as they are. This practice, taught by Buddha, aims to eliminate suffering and other destructive emotions, since from the Buddhist point of view, both happiness and suffering do not depend fundamentally on external circumstances, but on the mind itself.
Mindfulness and spirituality are effortless ways to help alleviate that suffering. We could define it as the art of making conscious sensations of our body that normally go unnoticed by us, since even though we have this ability, we rarely use it consciously for more than a few seconds.
Mindfulness is not something new, and takes us back to the ancient tradition of meditation which is more than many years old. No matter where you are in your life, mindfulness can transform your existence for the better. People often turn to mindfulness in difficult times: during a divorce or breakup, after losing a loved one, when diagnosed with a critical illness, or just amid an extra period of stress in their lives.
The main attitude behind mindfulness practice is compassion. The observation must be imbued with a loving and kind attitude. What we observe, either inside or outside, is something very dear, because it is precisely what we have had to live with. Meditation is more than a specific practice, it is a state of mind, heart, and being. A true change of consciousness, a gradual and profound transformation of the way we experience life and ourselves every day.
Normally, this deep core in which we recognize ourselves is covered by the accumulation of thoughts, emotions, memories, and desires that invade us to the point of believing that they are the ones that make up our identity.
Life is beautiful, and even better with meditation.
