Land of the Melting Pot Kids: Epiphany of Dreams by E. Mary Yearwood
Land of the Melting Pot Kids is a story about a diverse group of students who tumble into a magical melting pot and experience amazing true-to-life adventures. With each adventure, the children discover their strengths and talents, and achieve their greatest potential.
America has long been referred to as a rich, melting pot of unique people of all races, cultures, orientations, and abilities. The imaginary melting pot is a metaphor for America. In each series, generation Z children are encouraged to embrace diversity.
Children everywhere are sure to enjoy each exciting adventure that the melting pot kids experience. Sandy’s guidance encourages each of the children to realize their greatest potential in life, and at the same time, accept and respect everyone, despite their differences. They learn valuable lessons of perseverance, acceptance, and cooperation, and she, in turn, realizes that being in a wheelchair does not limit her abilities. In the end, the "melting pot kids" discover that everyone can use their individual talents and abilities to play important roles in society and make the world a better place.
This story is about a diverse group of students, who, by chance, sit at the same lunch table one day at their middle school. At first, the children are hesitant to sit together, as they have never met, and they all appear to come from different backgrounds. Sandy is confined to a wheelchair and cannot physically engage in certain activities like her other schoolmates. Harold is a chubby African American boy who dresses in traditional African clothes. Chris, Jada, and Megan wear all the latest fashions and are popular at school. Kathie, on the other hand, is a slender African American girl who also dreams of being popular with her schoolmates. Hoon is a new student from China, who is unfamiliar with the American way of life.
In welcoming her schoolmates to sit at her table one afternoon, Sandy discovers that her greatest strength is in motivating them to be the best they can be. She encourages each of the children to share their individual dreams in life, and she, in turn, shares her own story about a chef and his large melting pot.
It wasn’t long before Sandy convinced her group of friends to close their eyes and take a tumble into her imaginary melting pot. Each time she snapped her fingers, something magical happened, and a new and exciting adventure began. With each adventure, the group of children found themselves in a strange new land, where they were able to discover their greatest talents and realize their lifelong dreams.
