Sinopse
Joining us at Audible Studios is broadcaster, social media content creator and disability activist, Lucy Edwards.
At seventeen years old, Lucy Edwards underwent surgery in an attempt to save her eye sight but the operation was unsuccessful. As she moved through the grief for losing her sight and for her sighted life, Lucy was determined to be a light in the darkness to others going through a similar experience. She started her own YouTube channel and uploaded videos documenting her own experiences and beauty tutorials. She has since amassed over 600,000 subscribers on YouTube, and over 1.7 million followers on TikTok.
Alongside working for sight loss charities, Edwards became the first ever blind pre-senter to host on BBC Radio 1, promoting accessibility and proving that being blind doesn’t hold her back. Edwards has earned herself the Young Persons Achievement Award at the Guide Dogs official gala, run the London Marathon to raise money for Guide Dogs, as well as collaborating in the writing of The Superhero Dog, a children’s book about her retired guide dog, Olga.
Lucy Edwards has now written Blind Not Broken, a book about her story and how it can help others. We’ll be asking Lucy about rebellious hope, how her family worked together, and why it’s okay to feel two opposing things at the exact same time.
