Web developers who work as employees of companies are limited in their potential earnings and subject to all of the typical issues of working for someone else. I've been there and done that. I wanted more income, more freedom, and more variety of projects. I work mostly from a small, comfortable office (by choice), but I often get away to very nice destinations and take my work with me - one of the best perks of being in charge of my career.
