Sobre este áudio
Joining us at Audible Studios is British political activist Sophie Walker, who was the founding leader of the Women's Equality Party in the United Kingdom. Her book, Five Rules for Rebellion, gives us advice on how to incorporate activism into our lives.
Walker, raised in Glasgow, began her career as a journalist, working as a reporter, then editor at Reuter's news agency. She joined forces with the likes of Sandi Toksvig to create the Women's Equality Party in 2015, taking a nonpartisan approach to elections. Under Walker's leadership, the party grew to 75 branches, held two party conferences and ran multiple nationwide campaigns on topics relevant to the party objectives. Walker resigned as leader in 2019 and later became Chief Executive of Young Women’s Trust.
Walker has appeared on UK media broadcasts, was listed as one of BBC's '100 Women' and named by The Evening Standard as one of the 'New Suffragettes'. Following these accolades and achievements, we'll be chatting to Sophie Walker about why hope is an act of defiance when it comes to activism, what men can do to further gender equality and discussing her new book to find out why activism is essential.
