The "Adam gene" is a concept often associated with the Y-chromosomal Adam, which is the most recent common ancestor from whom all currently living humans are directly descended patrilineally. This term comes from the biblical figure Adam and refers to the male counterpart to the mitochondrial Eve, the most recent common matrilineal ancestor. Y-chromosomal Adam lived thousands of years ago and is estimated based on genetic analysis.
