Sinopse

The forerunner to The Lord of the Rings, The Silmarillion tells the earlier history of Middle-earth, recounting the events of the First and Second Ages, and introducing some of the key characters, such as Galadriel, Elrond, Elendil and the Dark Lord, Sauron.

The tales of The Silmarillion are set in an age when Morgoth, the first Dark Lord, dwelt in Middle-earth, and the High Elves made war upon him for the recovery of the Silmarils, the jewels containing the pure light of Valinor.

Included on the recording are several shorter works. The Ainulindalë is a myth of the Creation and in the Valaquenta the nature and powers of each of the gods is described. The Akallabêth recounts the downfall of the great island kingdom of Númenor at the end of the Second Age, and Of the Rings of Power tells of the great events at the end of the Third Age, as narrated in The Lord of the Rings.

This brand-new unabridged recording is read by the acclaimed actor, director and author, Andy Serkis.

Tokien's words through Andy Serkis' voice...

What else should I say about this? Tolkien is the greatest fantasy writer that humanity ever produced, The Silmarillion was probably the work he enjoyed the most when writing, and for sure it is his magnum opus. Andy Serkis brings a very suiting tone for the lore, one can feel the love of the reader for the book when listening to it.

Magical beyond Words

It a hard review indeed since it's not my first ever contact with this piece, it is in fact my third spin on the magic tale of the First Age of Middle Earth and it was perfect! The first time I ever read The Silmarillion was with a physical copy in portuguese, then I bought a Kindle copy in English which was probably the hardest book to keep up in my second language since The Bible. This, though, was just amazing, Andy Serkis narration and interpretation kept my eyes wide open and a smirk in the corner of my mouth for nigh 20 hours and honestly I was not expecting it to be so spetacular!
This got engraved in my mind as my most magic experience with a fantastic world since Peter Jackson's The Lord of the Rings films and honestly I wish all audiobooks were read with such passion and dedication!
And we all know the narration could only achieve so much if the original material is in any way poor, The Silmarillion is such an epic piece that it stands unmatched (dare I say: unmachtable) as the most impressively written pieces of fantasy, Professor Tolkien raised the bar for worldbuilding so high that his work can even be considered mythological instead of fantastic!
I highly recommend this piece of art! Amazon owed us after The Rings of Power.
