They live at the nexus of consciousness and compassion; and, in this book—Woke Leadership: Profits, Prophets & Purpose—Douglas describes the experiences that create these leadership traits and by presenting a profile of “woke” leaders and followers in action.
Coined in 1938, the term woke has been weaponized but Douglas urges us to remember the urgency and relevance of its original meaning—to be alert and attentive. Woke leadership is a continuum of noticing, appreciating, internalizing, and acting. They lead with purpose and compassion. She states: "This is not a how-to book, but a guide to the most effective, inspiring leadership I have had the privilege of witnessing in my 30+ years coaching and consulting in the C-suite."
