Project A.W.A.R.E. is a grant program funded by S.A.M.H.S.A. (the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration). The Sandy Hook school shooting happened in December of 2012. In 2013 the White House initiative "NOW IS THE TIME" came out with 2 key goals:

    1. Make schools safer and more nurturing.

    2. Increase access to mental health services.

The "NOW IS THE TIME" initiative laid the foundation for federal grants like A.W.A.R.E. Arkansas applied for and received the second round of funding for A.W.A.R.E. in October of 2018. Our project is dedicated to Advancing Wellness and Resiliency in Education.

    Coaching & Self-Awareness

Coaching is a powerful way to gain more self-awareness. Too often coaching is seen as punitive, or only something you need if you're new, or if you are struggling as an educator. In so many other fields having a coach is simply a sign that you want to be better!...that you want feedback and you are looking for progress. Today we talk about how to gain more self-awareness and some of the things that get in the way. Join our conversation by letting us know your thoughts! We appreciate every comment, review and rating!

  • Is it Me?
    Feb 13 2023
    Is it Me?
Have you ever asked yourself, "is it me?" when you're having a difficult time with a student or behavior management in the classroom? Self-awareness is critical to our ability to make the kinds of changes we're always talking about.
Today we talk about the very real struggle of managing your own shame response while managing a classroom. Does shame ever override your social skills as an adult? It takes an intentional effort to respond in a way other than what is natural. We talk about junk behavior, like eye-rolling, and how to pivot when necessary.
You'll be able to tell that we were recording virtually from our home offices during the winter weather. We'll be back in the studio with the GOOD SOUND next episode!

    Like or Value

We were iced in with you all last week and we’re coming to you from our home offices! Today Betsy joins the conversation and wants some clarification on what we mean by “like” your students. For some people, maybe “value” is a better word because “liking” every single student seems like an unattainable dream. Has our definition of “like” changed with the influence of social media? We get into it. Join us!
