  • BRB! Busy Relishing in Babytime!
    Jun 2 2022

We have a very special guest on today’s chat! We welcomed our baby boy and are over the moon to be starting this next chapter of our adventure together. We’re taking a little break from the podcast to enjoy this time as we navigate our new roles as parents (and try to catch some zzz’s… although that's probably wishful thinking!). We’ll be back with lots of questions and reflections. Until then, we’ll just be right here, soaking it all in (literally)…

Thank you for all the love and support!

  • Stem Cells, Cord Blood and Tissue, Oh My! with Dr. Jaime Shamonki
    May 3 2022
We’ve received a lot of great advice from friends and family as we prep to welcome our first baby! One of our friends told us about cord blood storage - something we knew nothing about. After looking into it, we decided to hop on a chat with Dr. Jaime Shamonki, Chief Medical Officer at Cord Blood Registry, to talk all about the science and the why behind collecting and storing our baby’s cord blood and tissue. Dr. Jaime Shamonki is a mom of two. She trained in Anatomic and Clinical Pathology at New York Presbyterian Hospital – Weill Cornell Medical College and has completed fellowships at Weill Cornell as well as the University of California, Los Angeles. Prior to joining Generate Life Sciences, Dr. Shamonki developed expertise in women's health and clinical laboratory medicine, serving as the Director of Breast Pathology and Blood Bank Medical Director at Saint John’s Health Center in Santa Monica, CA, and as an Assistant Professor at the John Wayne Cancer Institute. Connect with Dr. Jaimie ShamonkiIG:@ShamonkiMDhttps://www.instagram.com/shamonkimd/@CordBloodRegistryhttps://www.instagram.com/cordbloodregistry/Use promo code HOME for over 50% savings on cord blood and cord tissue bundle with 1st year of storage. https://www.cordblood.comTHANK YOU TO OUR FRIENDS AT ADT for making it possible for us to share these stories in a safe and secure place, At Home. https://www.adt.com/AtHomeText 310-496-8667 with your questions for #AtHomePodcast !If you’ve enjoyed this podcast, please subscribe, rate and share with a friend! Thank you for being a part of the At Home community! Connect with Linda & Drew: instagram.com/athomeinstagram.com/imlindorkinstagram.com/mrdrewscott#AtHome PodcastTHEME SONG BY: Victoria Shawwww.instagram.com/VictoriaShawMusic Chad Carlsonwww.instagram.com/ChadCarlsonMusic MUSIC COMPOSED AND PRODUCED BY:Rick Russohttps://www.instagram.com/rickrussomusicSpecial thanks to all our At Home homies: PRODUCERS:Brandon AngelenoHanna PhanPOST AUDIO ENGINEER:Chris CobainNicole SchacterWEBSITE:Wesley FriendSERIES PHOTOGRAPHER: Dennys Ilicwww.instagram.com/dennydennSponsored by:ADT: It’s important to have not just a beautiful home -- but a smart and safer home.https://www.adt.com/AtHomeSee Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.

  • Anatomy of Anxiety with Dr. Ellen Vora
    Apr 26 2022
Now is always a good time to talk about anxiety. Although we’re feeling okay presently, we know that the wonderful adventure of parenthood will also come with many challenges that will test our relationship with ourselves and one another. Enter Dr. Ellen Vora. Dr. Vora is a holistic psychiatrist, acupuncturist, and yoga teacher. She takes a functional medicine approach to mental health—considering the whole person and addressing imbalance at the root. Dr. Vora received her B.A. from Yale University and her M.D. from Columbia University, and she is board-certified in psychiatry and integrative holistic medicine. More than 40 million Americans suffer from anxiety in any given year, a number that has only increased as a result of the Covid-19 pandemic. We’ve long thought of anxiety as a “neck up” problem—a problem of brain chemistry and psychology, but now in The ANATOMY OF ANXIETY: Understanding and Overcoming the Body's Fear Response, acclaimed psychiatrist Dr. Ellen Vora offers nothing less than a paradigm shift in the way we understand anxiety and mental health. Vora suggests that the symptoms of anxiety are frequently the result of physical imbalance—that is, anxiety is a whole-body condition, not simply a brain condition. In the same way that Bessel van der Kolk’s bestselling The Body Keeps Score changed how we understand trauma, The Anatomy of Anxiety will transform our understanding of anxiety. The good news is that this body-based anxiety is treatable—simple solutions include: getting our circadian rhythm back on track; limiting caffeine, and becoming aware of blood sugar and its contribution to “hanxiety.”Connect with Dr. Ellen Vorahttps://ellenvora.comIG: @EllenVoraMDhttps://www.instagram.com/ellenvoramd/YT: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCiVEkdGfZmvqfBcPvF9EvJA/videosDr. Vora offers a ton of resources!!! https://ellenvora.com/resources/Get her book, The ANATOMY OF ANXIETY: Understanding and Overcoming the Body's Fear Responsehttps://ellenvora.com/book/Thanks to our friends at ADT for making it possible for us to share these stories in a safe and secure place, At Home. https://www.adt.com/AtHomeText 310-496-8667 with your questions for #AtHomePodcast !If you’ve enjoyed this podcast, please subscribe, rate and share with a friend! Thank you for being a part of the At Home community! Connect with Linda & Drew: instagram.com/athomeinstagram.com/imlindorkinstagram.com/mrdrewscott#AtHomePodcastTHEME SONG BY: Victoria Shawwww.instagram.com/VictoriaShawMusic Chad Carlsonwww.instagram.com/ChadCarlsonMusic MUSIC COMPOSED AND PRODUCED BY:Rick Russohttps://www.instagram.com/rickrussomusicSpecial thanks to all our At Home homies: PRODUCERS:Brandon AngelenoHanna PhanPOST AUDIO ENGINEER:Chris CobainNicole SchacterWEBSITE:Wesley FriendSERIES PHOTOGRAPHER: Dennys Ilicwww.instagram.com/dennydennSponsored by:ADT: It’s important to have not just a beautiful home -- but a smart and safer home.https://www.adt.com/AtHomeSee Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.

  • Autism Awareness with Jeff Ullrich
    Apr 12 2022
Our friend, Jeff Ullrich, joins us to answer our questions about autism. April is Autism Awareness Month and we’re excited to understand more from Jeff, who learned that he was autistic in January 2020, at the age of 45. Jeff is a podcast OG - co-founded Earwolf in 2010, founded Midroll Media in 2013 and Howl in 2015. He then sold all three companies in 2015 for a number of reasons (he’ll explain!). Now, he has launched Dove Orchids, a 100% autistic owned and operated for-profit company with a mission to work with peers, partners and allies to improve the quality of life for autistic people while also improving workplaces, homes and lives for everyone — because he and the team at Dove Orchids understand that everyone (not just those who are autistic) benefits from including autistic people because they bring unique insights and valuable contributions. They work to reduce stigma and increase opportunities while creating a world where autistic people are the authorities of their own lives; are understood, accepted, and valued for who they truly are.Connect with Jeff and Dove Orchids IG: @JeffUllrich www.instagram.com/jeffullrich/IG: @DoveOrchidswww.instagram.com/doveorchids/TW: @DoveOrchidstwitter.com/doveorchidsDove Orchids www.doveorchids.comFor an introduction / further reading about autism: neuroclastic.comJeff’s personal essay: about his struggle with autism: medium.com/@jeffullrich/dove-orchids-a-personal-essay-efbd4556959bLINKS N’ THINGS: Thanks to our friends at ADT for making it possible for us to share these stories in a safe and secure place, At Home. https://www.adt.com/AtHomeText 310-496-8667 with your questions for #AtHomePodcast !If you’ve enjoyed this podcast, please subscribe, rate and share with a friend!
