  • #7 Safe protection zone monitoring with radar sensor
    Jun 26 2024

When safeguarding machine areas, safety, user-friendliness and productivity need to be harmonised. In harsh environments, there are also special requirements. This is because the protective device must provide reliable protection even in the presence of high levels of dirt, such as dust and chips, or in wet conditions or direct sunlight. Radar sensors offer safe and reliable protection for these areas of application. In our latest podcast, Markus Locke, Product Manager Sensors for Area Monitoring, provides insights into radar technology and how it can be integrated into applications. Listen now and find out more about the wide range of possible applications!

  • #6 News on the legal requirements for the safe operation of mobile platforms
    Apr 3 2024

Autonomous mobile platforms, such as automated guided vehicles (AGVs), are increasingly being used in production and logistics environments. This results in legal requirements for the safety of AGVs. In this episode of our podcast series, Jürgen Bukowski, Senior Engineer in the Global Services Team of Pilz, reports on the new requirements for safety and integration of AGVs as described in the current AGV standard ISO 3691-4 and the Machinery Regulation, and how they can be implemented in practice. Using practical examples, you can find out how AGVs can be safely integrated into an existing infrastructure, why it is important to test the safety functions regularly and how you can protect it from unauthorized access from outside.

  • #2 Machinery Directive becomes Machinery Regulation
    Jul 31 2023

The new EU Machinery Regulation 2023/1230 will replace the existing Machinery Directive 2006/42/EC, which has been legally valid since 29 December 2009. It was published in the Official Journal on 29 June 2023 and will enter into force with legally binding effect in January 2027. Manufacturers and operators now have time to deal with the new Machinery Regulation. You can find out what changes are to be expected in the Pilz Podcast. This much can already be revealed: If you compare automation and mechanical engineering today with the requirements and technologies of 14 years ago, it becomes clear that the revision is more than sensible. Digitisation and networking, as well as the associated new topics of Industrial Security and Artificial Intelligence, have greatly changed factory floors and the machines and plants they contain.
