Byrd Waters is a Los Angeles native and founder of Sober Traveler, an online based addiction counseling and sober coaching business. With three years in active recovery, Byrd took her hard knock past in addiction and turned it into a love story for second chances and evolution. Working with tools such as Refuge Recovery, meditation, qigong and Ayurvedic nutrition, she takes her clients on a journey of reimagining a dynamic and healthy life after addiction. As a Globe trotter of over 10 countries and current Nomad, she loves to take her followers on a travel journey that is off the beaten path, often seeking out the gritty side of beautiful places. Noting that is what addiction is after all, the dark side of a beautiful place. A decorated veteran of the United States Army, she is used to facing challenges and being resourceful, both helpful tools for Solo traveling through the world. Androgynous by presentaion, she loves to share how her journey of “other” has led her to some of the sweetest human acceptance one can witness. With her upcoming essays, Passport to Sobriety and Keep Walking, she is marrying travel and transformation, and changing the narrative on addiction and mental health, teaching people to set boundaries and kick down borders.
