  • Episode 28: Pantera - Power Metal (1988)
    May 6 2024

When Metalheads think of Pantera, 1990's Cowboys from Hell is almost always the first thing to come to mind. With seminal classics like "Cowboys from Hell," "Domination," and "Cemetery Gates," everybody knows the audio onslaught that is Pantera's major label debut. But, what most fans don't know is that Pantera had 4 ALBUMS under their belt as a band BEFORE releasing Cowboys Hell. In this episode, CJ & Motley talk about Power Metal, Pantera's 3rd full-length record and 1st with a young Phil Anselmo on vocals. This album bridges the gap between Pantera's early Hair/Glam Metal days and their monumental Groove Metal sound of the 1990s with a handful of tracks that fall somewhere in between Judas Priest's Screaming for Vengeance and Metallica's Kill 'Em All. Enjoy!

  • Episode 27: LOST N' FOUND - Quiet Riot - Quiet Riot II (1978)
    Apr 15 2024

Thought to be lost to the ages and ether, Motley dug up an episode from over 4 YEARS AGO where he and CJ sat down to discuss Quiet Riot's 2nd album, Quiet Riot II.

QR I and II are strange beasts, having only been released in Japan and ending up lost to the annals of history as Quiet Riot's years of success wouldn't come until the early 1980s after phenom guitarist Randy Rhoads had left to join Ozzy Osbourne's solo band and was replaced by another shredder named Carlos Cavazo. This album isn't on any streaming services and is obscure to most Metal fans so sit down and hear the chat about this strange piece of Metal history!

  • Episode 25: King's X - Dogman (1994)
    Feb 5 2024

King's X, the monstrously talented trio of Dug Pinnick, Ty Tabor, and Jerry Gaskill, are often called "Your Favorite Metal Band's Favorite Metal Band" and "Musician's Musicians." They've spent the vast majority of their career as an "Underground" band but have amassed an extremely devoted following of musicians and non-musicians alike. Incredibly bands like Smashing Pumpkins, Pearl Jam, Alice in Chains, and even Dream Theater have cited King's X as an inspiration. In this episode, we talk about King's X's fourth, and often argued greatest, album, Dogman from 1994.

  • Episode 24: Black Sabbath - Born Again (1983)
    Jan 8 2024

CJ & Motley make a triumphant return to the podcast world with an inadvertent tradition: beginning a new run of episodes with a Black Sabbath record.

After Ronnie James Dio left Black Sabbath, due to "creative differences," to pursue a solo career, Ozzy Osbourne continued to make massive waves with his solo career, and Black Sabbath was left in a nebulous space looking for their next singer and trying to figure out what their next steps look like. This next step came in the form of former Deep Purple singer and shrieker, Ian Gillan. Gillan only joined the band for one album and a short touring period before departing again, but helped Black Sabbath create a strangely unique and standalone record, never originally intended to be a Black Sabbath album. CJ & Motley dive into the Black Sabbath "Black Sheep" record, 1983's Born Again.

  • TVS Bandstand: Ep. 2 - L7
    Jan 1 2024

Now that That Vinyl Show is back, we've been working to pull some old and/or incomplete episodes out of the vault and get them out into the world. CJ recorded this episode in May 2022. Enjoy!

L7 is one of the "Bands You Should Know" if you love Metal, Punk, Grunge, or just Rock in general. While they never achieved "superstardom" like such contemporaries as Nirvana, Soundgarden, or Black Flag, the band did have a profound impact on many musicians, particularly females, and the Punk and Grunge scenes as a whole. They even helped inspire and kick off the extremely influential Riot Grrl movement. On the second episode of TVS Bandstand, we dive into the story of four of the most badass women in Rock.
