    Throughout 1935, investigators in Kansas City struggled to not only determine the identity of the man calling himself "Roland T. Owen," but also had to untangle the strange circumstances that had led up to his death. It was clear that someone had wished to inflict pain upon Owen, but police could only speculate why.

    Meanwhile, the family of a missing young man from Birmingham, Alabama had been unable to locate any trace of him for over a year. Their search would end up intersecting with the ongoing investigation from Kansas City in the waning days of 1936, but in doing so, would end up raising even more questions...

    On Wednesday, 2 January 1935, a young man arrived at the Hotel President in Kansas City, Missouri. Claiming to be from Los Angeles, he told the front desk his name was Roland T. Owen and requested an interior room several floors up. Staff there accommodated him, assigning him a room on the tenth floor that overlooked the hotel's courtyard.

    Over the next two days, people would recall strange run-ins with Owen, including a few peculiar experiences in his room with hotel staff. But just two days later, after repeated attempts at rousing this guest for his morning wake-up call, a bellhop would make a grisly discovery inside of room 1046...

    On the evening of 18 August 2022, Amber Thurman was rushed to the Piedmont Henry Hospital in Stockbridge, Georgia. The 28-year-old single mother had been experiencing cramping and bleeding for days, and was beginning to vomit blood. After losing consciousness, her boyfriend had called 9-1-1 and requested an ambulance.

    After arriving at the hospital that evening, doctors would diagnose Amber with an infection that was quickly evolving into sepsis. They'd learn that Amber had recently undergone a medication abortion and needed a life-saving procedure known as a dilation and curettage (D&C). However, because of the recent repeal of Roe v. Wade, as well as Georgia's pre-existing abortion ban, doctors hesitated to perform the D&C. Meanwhile, Amber's condition worsened...

    On the evening of 31 October 2001, Hyun Jong Song - better known as "Cindy" - went with some friends to a costume party at a nightclub in State College, Pennsylvania. Having just started her senior year at Penn State, the 21-year-old was still getting over a recent breakup but had a fun Halloween with her friends, dancing until the early morning hours of November 1st.

    At around 4:00 AM, a friend dropped Cindy off at her apartment, but didn't wait for her to step inside before driving off.     In the summer of 1979, two youngsters in West Virginia struck up a fling. 25-year-old Mazie Mae Sigmon-Palmer was recently divorced and 18-year-old Jay Farley was fresh out of high school. Both were in transitory phases of their lives and recognized that their relationship was likely temporary, but they seemed to be enjoying it while it lasted.

    On the evening of July 14th, the two met up at a nightclub in downtown Charleston, called the Roaring Twenties. There, they hung out for a bit and even talked with some friends of theirs. But at some point that night, both would vanish. It wasn't until years later that evidence surfaced revealing what had happened to one of them, but the circumstances of their initial disappearance - and what led up to it - remain clouded in mystery...
