Jake Melkins is a few months away from turning 21. By the Seceltor Empire's laws, he will have to go to a breeding camp, or directly into slavery. Neither choice appeals to him. All this changes with the arrival of a space-and-time-traveling being known as Evaran at the space-station-turned-rest-stop that Jake lives on.

A heavily damaged alien research vessel in the Andromeda galaxy is hurtling toward a planet. The aliens should not be there. They have been traveling through space and time, abducting apex predators and sticking them in virtual simulations for research. The problem is the virtual simulations are powering down, unleashing the specimens on the ship.

Evaran and the gang get a summons to find Sazrissa Mortalka in the year AD 26,491 on Earth and to aid her in her cause. Dravell Zhage, along with Syr, his AI companion, and CC, Dravell’s cosmic cloth, also get a summons to do the same, then bring Sazrissa back to his Torvatta. Unfortunately, neither group has met each other before. Another problem is that the Evaranites, a cult that follows Evaran, are hunting Sazrissa. They are a brutal organization that deals in illegal cloned digital consciousnesses and a variety of other trades.
