Lusam

After accidentally discovering the possible existence of a second Guardian book, Lusam and his party are remorselessly hunted high into the Elveen mountains by the Empire agents, who are intent on killing or capturing them. What they discover there may very well change the balance of power in their favor against the Thule Empire. But their discovery will count for nothing if they cannot reach Lamuria in time to try and stop the massive invasion force sent by Lord Zelroth.

Ever since discovering that his mother is still alive, and being held captive by Lord Zelroth, Lusam has been tormented by terrifying nightmares. He soon finds that it's not only his nightmares which threaten to thwart his plans of a rescue, but also the King himself. New alliances are made and old ones are tested to their limits as Lusam's single-mindedness to rescue his mother causes him to take risks that he would never normally consider.

After failing to completely close The Rift, Lusam and Neala travel south in search of the illusive Pearl Isle, where they hope to discover the fourth Guardian book, and return in time to try again. Time, however, is not on their side, as the dark God, Aamon, sets in motion a plan to restore his own power, and once again tear open The Rift to unleash the horrors of the Netherworld upon their world. Aysha's new inability to see his destiny, along with her prophetic warnings about a hidden realm and Neala's certain death if she enters it, all weigh heavily on Lusam's mind.

Aamon continues to grow in strength while Lusam and his party attempt to forge new alliances with the dragons of Podrana. New Netherworld horrors are created and unleashed by Aamon while he makes his final preparations for escape. Humanity’s only hope of finally sealing The Rift and preventing the world’s destruction now lies in Lusam’s ability to find a dragon willing to bond with him, so that he, too, can become a fully-fledged Guardian. But they soon discover that the dragon’s homeland of Eindryl has changed a great deal since Arlo and Ryuu were last there.
