When a powerful witch goes missing from the NYPD, Dani is dragged out of retirement to assist her sometimes boyfriend, sometimes boss Captain Matthew King in locating the detective before it’s too late. It’s Detective Dani DeMarco's first week back on the job, and she is not amused. When Detective Dani DeMarco is attacked in the middle of the night, she’s more than a little disgruntled. However, she soon discovers that things aren’t as simple as they seem and that everyone she loves is in great danger. The battle for the Hex Files has officially begun, and Wicked is under attack. During the holidays, a snowstorm isn’t the only thing threatening the paranormal sixth borough of New York. A student has been killed on the Campus of Magic, and Detective DeMarco is called to the case. But once she begins to unravel the clues surrounding the murder, she realizes the incident is far more complex - and dangerous - than she ever imagined. Meanwhile, Grey has been gone for weeks, and Matthew is caught up in his new role for the NYPD. When Dani is assigned a rookie partner to help her with her latest case, it’s the last straw...until the killer sets his sights on Dani.

The end is near. Detective Danielle DeMarco is challenged with her most intense case yet, and along with it, she inherits a host of personal problems. When a sorcerer is found dead in The Emporium, a spell shop brimming with magical potions, elixirs, and tinctures, Dani and her new tagalong, Primrose, are on the case. However, work turns personal when someone close to Dani is poisoned. To make matters worse, another of Detective DeMarco’s closest friends vanishes, her boyfriend is hiding something, and there is a new threat to the borough more dangerous than any in history.

By the time Detective Dani DeMarco comes face-to-face with the person she’s been hunting for months, she’s lost almost everything. But only one can win at this deadly game, and Dani is determined this will be the wicked end - one way or another.
