Newark Working Kitchens
Newark Working Kitchens enlists local restaurants to deliver nutritious meals to vulnerable populations — low-income seniors and families, the homeless, and frontline medical responders — sustaining and strengthening the neighborhood anchors that will power the city’s comeback. By purchasing meals from each participating restaurant, NWK serves thousands of meals a week in one of the cities hit hardest by the Covid-19 pandemic.
Get Involved
NWK has identified thousands of additional Newark residents to feed and dozens of restaurants waiting in the wings to feed them. A donation of any size will go directly to keep Newark kitchens working and our community fed.
Sustaining Local Restaurants
Many local restaurants are in precarious financial positions due to Covid-19 and shuttering their doors permanently could bankrupt owners, put thousands of employees out of work indefinitely and leave a gaping financial hole in the city. And Newark’s history indicates that job loss and business destruction will be higher here than the rest of the state, making the loss of this local business even more significant.
Marcus B&P employees prepare one of the restaurant’s classic recipes for distribution.
A City in Need
NWK identifies populations in need through City Hall, Newark Public Schools, Bridges Outreach and Newark Emergency Services for Families, and works closely with tenants associations and community organizations to ensure meals are provided to those who need them most.
Hands-on Support
Audible and Newark Venture Partners, a venture fund and accelerator that attracts early stage companies to Newark, launched the Newark Small Business Guidance Program, in collaboration with Invest Newark, the city’s economic development corporation, to offer free support to small businesses as they navigate federal and state relief funding and adapt their businesses.
