The Cannery Row John Steinbeck immortalized in the novel of the same name, a place and a human ecosystem set beside the bounteous, beautiful Monterey Bay, is as mellow and unthreatening as its temperate climate.
Unless you are an adventurous feral cat named Jack. The Cannery Row of Jack the Cannery Row Cat intrigues, puzzles, and terrifies him. Can Jack find enough food to survive? Are humans, especially a human like Doc Ricketts, good or bad? Trustworthy or murderous? When Jack crashes a party in Doc’s Lab, one of those questionable humans suggests a greater aspiration: Jack could be a hero!
Will Jack be bold enough to leave the known, the vacant lot with its discarded boilers, the grocery store on one side, the big house that comes alive at night on the other side? Jack doesn’t know what to believe as he sets out on an odyssey--running from the words “Scat, cat!” in his search to survive, become a hero, and find his true home.
