crazy but fun

this is a review for the whole series.

i will start this review by disclaiming this series is absolutely insane. and i mean it. story is super over the top, plot is crazy and every single thing about it is just absurd. that being said, it was a really fun read. i had high expectations for this story because it's been recommended often, but diving in i realized i had no idea what to expect. i had to adjust expectations countless times because honestly the story is just all over the place and i had no idea where it was headed, which was the biggest turn off for me in this series. it also took me a while to actually care for any characters, since everyone is nuts and for half of it you don't even know anyone's motivations. but, i promise you, it pays off. character development is delightful and as the story progresses you fall in love over and over again with these characters. at the end of it you'll be hanging at the edge of your seat, desperate for more. it just takes a considerable amount of suspension of disbelief.

also, if you're reading this for the gays, know you'll need a lot of patience. slow burn doesn't even begin to describe how long it takes for anything to happen. but there's just so many things going on at once that trust me romance is not the priority in this.

as for narration, i guess it was too over the top for my taste but it makes sense since the story itself is very exaggerated too. i also want to give alexander cendese a little pat on the back for his work because he made it sound like a sports match throughout the entire series, which is perfectly in theme. it's just not my cup of tea.

lastly, but very very important. beware of triggering events. there is a lot of violence and gore, child abuse, sexual assault, drugs and alcohol, and many other sensitive topics like psychological abuse and brain washing.
