Over the course of the last 7 months of his life, Karen spent some 50 hours in person with Gacy and countless on the phone. She details the whole experience in her book, Killing Time with John Wayne Gacy: Defending America’s Most Evil Serial Killer on Death Row. She explains how she came to work on Gacy’s appeal, what he was really like in person, and how she reacted the first time she saw his infamous “Body Book.” Karen shares whether she believes there are more Gacy victims out there, and whether or not he acted alone in killing his 33 known victims.     It’s True Crime Week on TIJ, and starting us off, one of the biggest cases of the last year – the Gilgo Beach serial killings! These were a series of murders of mostly sex workers spanning from the early 1990s to 2011. On July 13, 2023, police arrested Rex Heuermann outside his office in Manhattan (New York City), and have since charged him with 6 of the killings. Filmmaker Josh Zeman joins to share details of the case, which he documented in the 2016 4-hour docuseries, The Killing Season. Josh talks about the circumstances that led to the discovery of multiple bodies and human remains, how they were identified, the way the police ultimately found and arrested suspect Rex Heuermann, and why it took law enforcement so long to find him!
