The battered GammaLAW mission to Aquamarine had barely succeeded in ending the war with the world-destroying aliens, the Roke. The key to victory lay deep within Aquamarine's terrifying sentient ocean, and Commissioner Dextra Haven was determined to reveal those secrets at all costs. But she and the Exts were running out of time - the Aquamarine natives were dead-set on destroying the Oceanic, which controlled their lives with its awesome powers. And the Roke, hidden behind one of Aquamarine's moons, were preparing to strike.

The reluctant knight, Sir Crassmore, had a talent for getting himself into the center of any trouble that came along. There could be big trouble in the Beyonds where anyone or anything might wander in from the innumerable realities of time and space.

When the reception for Madame Dextra Haven erupted in a bloodbath, the offworlders quickly realized that Aquamarine's natives were not to be underestimated. But the Aquam were not the only dangers to the Periapt forces. A menace from within her own troops could drastically alter Haven's beneficial plans for Aquamarine. With declining resources and limited firepower, the GammaLAW mission faced utter failure, but Haven and her Exts weren't about to give up without a fight - even if it could be their last....

The flies in the ointment. Once upon a time, the dying ruler of a small interstellar kingdom made a minor Old-Earth bureaucrat named Hobart Floyt the surprised inheritor of an interstellar spaceship. And that was wonderful, for in those days, when mankind was again expanding into the galaxy, a private spaceship was a license to coin credits. There were just a couple of minor problems.

Mankind was beginning its third leap into the Galaxy, but Old Earth had so long kept to herself that her people were unable to travel safely among the rough-and-tumble cultures that had evolved on distant worlds. That annoyed Earth's rulers, for Hobart Floyt--a minor Terran bureaucrat-- had been left a mysterious inheritance by the deceased ruler of a small but wealthy interstellar empire.

Galactic war was simple...win or die! Arrival on the ominous planet of Aquamarine was a splashdown into danger and death for Periapt high priestess Dextra Haven and her ragtag force of scientists and Ext warriors. Yet Dextra was undeterred, certain that Aquamarine held the key to peace between humans and a fierce alien race. But the sea-planet was rife with many deadly mysteries - and conquerors both seen and unseen lurked in cyberspace and outer space waiting to invade, possess, and destroy....

Just yesterday, Sergeant Gil MacDonald and his APC crew had been fending off an ambush in a Viet Nam jungle. In the middle of the firefight, some kind of magic spell had transported them to this Fantasy Land complete with flying dragons, wizards, crazy castles, and dispossessed princes. They would stay trapped here forever unless they could rescue the sorceress Gabrielle. Master magician Amon held her captive in his palace; and to reach her, Gil and his men would have to infiltrate Hell itself!

Though they contemplated a final suicide mission of blood, guts, and glory, the Exts knew their warrior super skills were no match for the LAW - Legal Annexation of Worlds - who were sent into space by the mighty Periapt potentates to colonize new populations against the evil, alien Roke. Among the Ext draftees bound for Periapt were Allgrave Burning, his techno-wizard cousin Lod, and beautiful, death-scarred Ghost, all sworn to a greater purpose, destined to fight in a star-torn war like none other.

Uneasy lies the head. In just a few months Alacrity Fitzhugh and Hobart Floyt had claimed Hobart's inheritance from the ruler of a small interstellar empire then returned to Earth and toppled its government. They'd also become good friends. But Alacrity had more important goals than bodyguarding Hobart - he wanted command of the fabulous White Ship, the starship designed to track down the secrets of the ancient and powerful Precursor aliens.

Gil MacDonald, soldier and exile in an alternate reality, must find Yardiff Bey, master wizard and archvillain. Bey has abducted Gil's friend and threatens to destroy this world of mystery and magic that the American has made his home. Coramonde's Prince Springbuck sends him south to the accursed lands of Shardishku-Salama, where Yardiff Bey waits to capture and torture him. With the comet Trailingsword hanging in the sky above, Springbuck sets out with his army to save Gil from an enemy that cannot be slain.
