Bessie's Resurrection gives voice to Richard Wright's fictional character Bessie Mears from his novel Native Son (1940). These poems offer Bessie room to articulate her experiences as an African American woman and how she suffers in her unenviable position, powerless and unseen. Here, Bessie's fictive character is self actualized by two historical African American trailblazers: Bessie Coleman and Bessie Smith who lived during the same time period when Bessie's story takes place.

In this shared work you will witness the Transformation Within the Experience through the authors and their personal growth, lessons, and living experience. Each story within includes a transition point for the authors. In volume one the authors expressed going from not knowing their greatness and ultimately finding their greatness and owning it; they shared their experiences in going blue to gold. This project will give you a glimpse into the transformation that occurs when they grow through each and every experience.

Experiences shape who you are, but they do not dictate who you become. Blue Girl Turned Gold is a relatable, positive work that is ignited by those seeking change for themselves and others.
