This is a work of "faction" based on the life of the author's great great grandfather, John Croft (1807-1883), who was born in Hertfordshire, England, served as a young officer in the British East India Company Army during the first Anglo-Burmese War (1824-1826), became one of Australia's wealthiest men (1843-1859), then returned to England as a landed gentleman who married into a prominent family of industrialists.

This book, PEACE and PRESERVATION: The Life of Gregory Melikian, is the biography of Gregory Melikian (b. 1924-) who, as a 20-year-old radio telegrapher for General Dwight D. Eisenhower, Commander of the Supreme Headquarters of the Allied Expeditionary Force (SHAEF) in Reims, France, was, on May 7, 1945, chosen to send the encoded communication to all our allies of the Nazi German military commanders' unconditional surrender.

This is the first monographic English-language biography of an important 19th century figure in Russian History, General Count Mikhail Tarielovich Loris-Melikov (1824-1888). He was an Armenian who was ennobled for his outstanding military service in the army of the Russian Empire through more than 150 battles in the Caucasus, Crimea, and Turkey. Here we see his life-long efforts on behalf of the culturally diverse citizens of the Russian Empire in the 19th century.

This is the first biography in English of Nikolai Ivanovich Kibalchich, who was hanged as the explosives technician of the "People's Will" party of terrorists who assassinated Russian Tsar Alexander II with a thrown grenade on March 1, 1881. While in prison awaiting execution, Kibalchich conceived and drew the design of the first rocket-powered human-piloted flying device, thus qualifying him in history as a "terrorist rocket pioneer".
