As a native English speaker, Luka Williamson isn’t expecting much from La Ciudad del Ingles. He has volunteered to spend one week talking with Spaniards who want to improve their English, in exchange for a free vacation at a luxury resort in the countryside. The program begins with a tour of La Alberca, a nearby UNESCO heritage town where a sacred pig roams the streets and the shops sell loins of jamón for tourists to take home. But the local history lesson quickly takes a back seat when a postal worker is found murdered in an alleyway near the town’s main church.

Thirty-year-old Luka Williamson is a self-absorbed jerk who has life pretty easy. He lives rent-free in his parents’ vacation apartment in Slovenia and writes books full-time. He has no day job, no friends -- and enough family money to not care. When his nosy parents start renovating the apartment’s bathroom, Luka decides to take a vacation from his first-world problems. Generally honked off about the post-pandemic world of 2022, he heads for Plovdiv, Bulgaria.

As a soldier in the Kosovo Liberation Army, Drago is trapped on the frontlines, witnessing the senseless atrocities of war. Forced to follow the orders of a bloodthirsty commander, he must pay the price of survival without losing his will to resist. Caught up in a never-ending cycle of vengeance, Drago fights for the lives of his brother and closest friends. The decisions he makes with the gun in his hands will determine their fate in the battle for Kosovo.
